Margaret died at age 88 on August 30 in Northridge, CA. Born in Amherst, Nova Scotia, she moved with her family to Los Angeles when her husband joined the faculty at the University of Southern California Medical School in 1961. She was for many years a leading member in the CARES organization serving the LAC-USC Medical Center and manager of the CARES hospital gift shop. On her husband’s retirement in 1989, she moved with him from La Cañada, CA, to Lummi Island, WA, where they lived until 2014. She was predeceased by daughter Linnhe Bethune and siblings John Bickerton and Ruth Davies, and is survived by husband John E. Bethune, MD, son John O. Bethune (Cheryl Spector), granddaughters Jessica and Miranda, siblings Barbara Best, Robert Bickerton, Carman Bickerton, and Jim ‘Bick’ Bickerton, and many nieces and nephews.
