Bradshaw, Joseph Allan
Joseph Allan Bradshaw, age 95, Halifax, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2015, at Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building. Born in Hampton, NB, on March 5, 1920, he was the only son of the late William and Ethel (Yeomans) Bradshaw. Joe grew up in St. Martins, NB, and after the outbreak of World War II, joined the New Brunswick 8th Hussars in Sussex, NS. He served overseas in England, the Central Mediterranean, North West Europe and was one of the Holland liberators. After the war, he returned to Canada and settled in Halifax where he married his wife Winnifred (Pollock) whom he had met in Sussex before the war. He and Winnie made their home in Armdale where they lived for over 60 years and where they raised their family. Early in the 1950’s, Joe and Winnie ran a small grocery store until he retired in 1976. Joe and Winnie had many bridge playing friends in Halifax and in Florida where they spent 25 winters. They also traveled extensively throughout Canada and the United States often taking many side trips on their journeys to and from Florida. After Winnie’s death in 2010, Joe continued to reside in Armdale until moving to Camp Hill in 2012.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Dale Heisler (Ronald), Bridgewater; his sons, Neil (Paulette), Surrey, BC; Billy (Krystina Napier), Cole Harbour; his grandchildren, Sharon, Jennifer, and Allan; four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. He is further survived by his niece, Laverne Thomas (Malcom), Fredericton, NB; his nephew, Cyril Langille (Pat), Saint John, NB; his brother-in-law, Norman Pollock (Lorraine), Sussex Corner, NB.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Winnie; his sister, Doris Langille and her husband, Lawson.
Visitation will be on Monday, September 14, 2015 from 6 to 8 pm in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, with funeral on Tuesday, September 15 at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. Joe will be laid to rest alongside his dear wife Winnie in Hampton Rural Cemetery, Hampton, NS on Wednesday, September 16 at 2:00 pm and where he will join his buddies from the 8th Hussars. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. James Anglican Church, 2668 Joseph Howe Drive, Halifax, NS B3L 4E4.
