INGERSOLL, LEWIS REXFORD JUNIOR JEROD “JOHN”
1936 - 2015
Mr. John Ingersoll formerly of Woodwards Cove, Grand Manan Island passed away at the Grand Manan Nursing Home on Monday, September 14, 2015 following a period of deteriorating health. He was born at Woodwards Cove the son of the late Rexford and Valerie (Brown) Ingersoll.
John worked his whole life in the fishery. He owned and operated his own fishing boat and for many years lobster and scalloped fished. He also weir fished and later he had the opportunity to acquire a smoked herring stand and he expanded it to a successful, productive fish plant in the 1970’s and 80’s. All of this he did from Woodwards Cove where he and his late wife Betty raised their family together with love and ran their business. Following the death of his first wife Betty John later found companionship with Geraldine Brown and their bond and friendship soon grew to marriage, where they enjoyed many good times together with their families. He enjoyed his gardens, hunting, his camp at Beech Hill, and especially the times when his family was together.
He is survived by one daughter Glenda (Mervin) Fudge of Woodwards Cove, three sons; Mark (Shirley) Ingersoll, Matthew (Sheena) Ingersoll both of Woodwards Cove, and Luke (Cynthia) Ingersoll of Harbour Breton, NL, one sister Theo McComb of Douglas Wyoming, USA, nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Betty (Green) in 1998, also his second wife Geraldine in 2003.
Visiting will take place at the Immanuel Family Church on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral will take place from the Church on Friday, September 18, 2015 at 1:00 pm with Rev. George Clark and Rev. Mark Munn officiating. The interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. There will be a reception following the service and all who attend are invited to stay for a time of fellowship.
Donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice in memory of John.
