It is with deep sadness that our family is announcing the passing of Mary Cecilia MacCormack (nee Parrott) who was our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Mary peacefully passed away on Sept. 21, 2015 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was born in Glace Bay and was daughter to the late William and Elizabeth (O’Connell) Parrott. She was a long time resident of Glace Bay and parishioner of St. John’s, St. Leo's and St. Ann's parishes.
Mary loved to help people. She was a nurse’s aide for over 30 years while working at both Victoria Haven and Seaview Manor. She had many passions and among them was: sewing, quilting, knitting and baking. In her younger days she loved to dance and was very talented and graceful on the dance floor. She gave of herself and time to the community at large and over the years donated baptismal gowns, quilts, baked goods and much more to organizations in need.
Mary loved her family and gave everything that she had to ensure that her loved ones were cared for.
Mary will be sadly missed by her children, Patricia (Francis) Kennedy, Genevieve (Lew) Shepherd, Fraser (Jill) McMullin, Deborah Harris (Terry), Thomas (Kristine) McMullin, Vernon McMullin, Arlene McMullin and Delores McMullin (David).
She was loved by her grandchildren, Jennie Reddick, Patricia, Michael, Elizabeth, Beverly, Joshua and Delores Kennedy, Matthew and Nicholas McMullin, Thomas and Connor Harris, Kieran and Kate McMullin. Mary will be sadly missed by her sisters, Regina Parrott , Betty Bushnik, Doris Rose and brother Kevin Parrott.
She cared for and kept in touch with numerous nieces, nephews and friends over the years.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Elmer MacCormack and her sons, Thomas Joseph McMullin and Dean Albert McMullin. She also lost her sister Isabelle Power, brothers, Bill, Tom and Carl Parrott. She mourned the loss of her grandchildren, Sandy J. Kennedy, Kirk Kennedy, Sandy W. Kennedy, Francis Kennedy, and Kyle McMullin.
In honouring Mary’s request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015, from 7-9 p.m. at V.J McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Leo Boone, will be celebrated Monday, Sept. 28, at 2 p.m. at St. Anne’s Church. A reception will follow in the church foyer. Interment will be at the parish cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy for Mary, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the IW., Glace Bay Food Bank, Harvest House, the Salvation Army or a charity of choice.
