Sister Mary Jane MacPherson
On October 20, 2015 at the Precious Blood Monastery, Hamilton, Ontario, Sister Mary Jane MacPherson entered Eternal Life in the peace of the Lord and in the hope of Resurrection. Supported by our faithful chaplain, Father Robert Dunn, her Sisters in Community and our devoted Infirmary Nursing Staff, Sister left this world in the 83rd year of her life and the 57th year of her Religious Profession.
Sister Mary Jane was predeceased by her parents, Mary Margaret and William Alexander and by her brother, John Fraser (Hélène), the oldest of the siblings. She is survived by her sister and best friend, Betty (Mary Elizabeth and George Falt) of Squamish, B.C. and nieces and nephews Marilyn (Souhail Farrage), Janice (Shawn Barton), Guy (Liz), Angela and Andrea, grandniece Meagan, grandnephews Alan, Tyler, Simon, Julian and Louis, great-grandnephews Logan and Ethan and devoted cousins, the Naylens. She was predeceased by her nephews Gregory and Larry and nieces Joanne and Maureen.
While Sister was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba, Vancouver Island was always “home”. She attended St. Ann’s Academy there, later took a commercial course and worked at “the Buildings”, government offices in Victoria.
The diversity in Sister’s early years, her family roots in Ontario where both parents were born, her own birth in Manitoba, her growing up years, education and working days in Victoria, developed in her an “adventurous spirit” toward life. As a young woman Sister Mary Jane joined the Air Force Reserve which took her to the Province of Québec. As a Precious Blood Sister, she was at home with her service from Coast to Coast in Canada: B.C. to P.E.I. and many points in between. Sister always maintained a free spirit expressed in her poetic and artistic gifts.
Visitation will be held at the Precious Blood Monastery, 154 Northcliffe Avenue, Dundas on Friday, October 23, 2015 from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. with a Prayer Vigil at 7:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Precious Blood Monastery on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Burlington.
