James Hector

HECTOR, James W.
James (Jim) W. Hector passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 21st, 2015 at Bobby’s Hospice. Born on November 18, 1941, Jim dedicated his life to his passion for family and animals, particularly horses.
As a teenager, Jim spent three years in the Royal Canadian Navy’s reserve division prior to transferring to active duty where he spent five years aboard the HMCS Crescent. Following his military career he worked as an iron worker for Ocean Steel, but his deep love for horses quickly pulled him towards a career as a farrier. He completed his training in Oklahoma, and worked as a well-respected certified farrier across New Brunswick until his retirement a few years ago. In addition to his work, at his farm in Welsford, he also bred and trained quarter horses and border collies.
Jim is predeceased by his father, George Hector, mother Etta Hector (nee Murphy), and his sister-in-law Marlene Hector. Jim is survived by three sons, George, Jamie and Michael; his brother Ed Hector; sister and brother-in-law Rhoda and Robert Williams; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John (634-1701). In respect for Jim’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Following cremation, there will be a private graveside service. The family would like to thank the nurses and health professionals on 5C North at the Saint John Regional Hospital and Bobby’s Hospice for their care and compassion during his illness. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bobby’s Hospice. www.castlefh.com
