Nita Brennan

Nita Brennan

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Nita R Brennan, 92, of McDougal Street of Springhill, NS. Nita passed away surrounded by her family on October 22nd at 3:15 pm sharp, at Cumberland Regional Healthcare Centre.
Born in Springhill, she was the daughter of the late Harry M. and Cora R. (Schurman) Fenton.
Nita was educated in Springhill schools, the Provincial Normal College in Truro, and worked hard to earn enough to attend Acadia University, where she completed her education degree, graduating in 1959.
In 1969, Nita met and married Arthur Brennan, and was immediately absorbed into a family full of young grandchildren and associated chaos; her quiet studious days would be forever changed.
Before long Nannie Nita and Papa Art entered municipal and provincial politics, and she reveled in her quiet role of chief supporter and confidante. Holding strong belief in our democratic system, she felt it a central civic duty to learn the party platforms and to make one's mark when called upon to do so.
As a teacher Nannie Nita took great satisfaction in sharing knowledge, and felt a deep responsibility for helping others better themselves through education. Within her own family she strongly encouraged her grandchildren and great grandchildren to seek post secondary education, the result of which she had the joy of seeing come to fruition.
Nannie Nita's greatest dedication was to that of serving the Lord Jesus Christ, and was a life long member of the Springhill Baptist Church. Over the years she was active in several associated groups including the Women's Missionary Society and the Springhill Baptist Bible Study Group. She regularly attended Sunday service and supported many projects in the name of spreading the word of the Lord. Her faith was always a corner stone of her life, a source of strength and wisdom.
She is predeceased by her husband of 34 years, Arthur, and her twin sister Cora who died in infancy. She is survived by her step-son George (Helen) Brennan of Springhill, NS, granddaughters Patti (Dan) Nichol of Caribou, NS, Paula (Ally) Barber of Blackfalds, AB, Pamela (Tara) Brennan of Halifax, NS, and great grandchildren, Brendan, Kayleigh, and Spencer Nichol. She will be missed by her special companion Bob Pulsifer.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to A.H. Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, (902 597 2361) where visitation was held from 7-9 pm on Sunday, October 25, 2015. Funeral service held 2 pm on Monday, October 26, 2015 from the funeral Home. Burial followed in Hillside Cemetery, Springhill.
Those wishing to make a donation in Nita's memory may do so to the Springhill Baptist Church, or the charity of your choice.
Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting Nita's online memorial at www.brownsfuneralhome.com or through the funeral home Facebook Page.
