We, the family of Marguerite Gillespie, regret to announce her passing on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015, in the palliative care unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born Jan. 22, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Kate MacDonald and stepmother, Leah MacDonald, Hillside, Mira.
Marguerite is survived by her son, Gordon, Sydney; daughter, Heather (Errol Pretty), Mira; son, Harold (Lynn), Mira; grandchildren, Gordon Jr., Stephen, Kenneth, Jennifer, Errol Jr., Scott, Bradley and Jean; five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Katherine Basler, Annie Morrison and Gladys Lever.
She was predeceased by her husband, Henry; daughter-in-law, Iris; grandson, David; sisters, Katie, Helen and Pearl and brothers, Angus, Donald and Lauchie.
Marguerite was a loving and caring friend to all who knew her and will be sorely missed. Her family always came first in her life. She loved to be on the go and doing things for others, such as baking cinnamon rolls and tea biscuits. Marguerite was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Sydney.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Bethel Presbyterian Church on Friday 11 a.m., with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Interment in Oakfield Cemetery, Mira.
Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
Our heartfelt thanks goes out to the caring and professional staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Seaview Manor, the Cove Guest Home and the C.B. Handi-Trans, as well as to all those who helped mom in her final days.
