It is with deep regret and sadness that we announce the passing of Charles 'Skip' John Maynard MacKenzie, 67, of Baddeck on Nov. 9, 2015 while vacationing, with his family, in Mexico.
Skip was devoted to his only daughter and rarely missed a basketball game or skating competition. He enjoyed yacht racing and was active in the local Bras d’Or Yacht Club and at one point served as acting commodore. He was also an avid snowmobiler. After 42 years Skip retired from his position as Provincial Director of Assessment for Cape Breton and Eastern Nova Scotia.
Skip is survived by daughter, Jillian 'Jill' Dorothy and her husband, Ryan Tucker; step-grandsons, Matthew and Jacob, Sherwood Park, Alta.; Mother Dorothy Charal (Rowe) MacKenzie, Baddeck; sister, Alana (Doug) Hastings, Baddeck; nephew, Matthew Hastings and aunts, uncles and cousins.
Skip was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Dorothy 'Dot' Raylene (MacIntosh); his father, Charles 'Buddy' J.D. MacKenzie in 1989.
Memorials in Skip and Dot's memory many be made to Victoria County Memorial Hospital Charitable Foundation or the Bras d’Or Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program (Bras d’Or Yacht Club, 1 Jones St., Baddeck, N.S., B0E 1B0).
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date, time to be announced.
