Larry Jerrett
Lawrence Randolph “Larry” Jerret was born March 28, 1942 in Victoria, Newfoundland to Llewelyn and Irene. He passed away November 27, 2015 in Lacombe, Alberta at the age of 73.
His father built a house in Carbonear, Newfoundland and moved his family there in 1945. In 1955 Larry was caught in hurricane winds created by Hurricane Hazel. He was blown in front of a car and hospitalized, unconscious for a long time, suffering numerous fractures and a serious head injury. Larry spent most of his childhood running the beaches and out in the boats. As a turn, he was in the Air Cadets. After schooling he joined the Navy, but it was short lived; after about a year and a half he had to take a discharge due to complications from the account that left him hospitalized earlier in his life. He underwent surgery and had a plate implanted in his head. After this he went to work with the Department of Transportation in the Cable Ship, an ice breaker that travelled abroad to such places like Bahamas, Panama Canal, Jamaica, Cuba and North Atlantic above the Arctic Circle. After a few attempts at fishing and other different jobs he took up the insulation trade in 1974, taking his first job in New Brunswick. In 1975, as many men did, he headed for Fort McMurray and helped in the building of Syncrude. In 1978 he moved to Alberta so his family could have a better way of life. He worked on numerous jobs insulating throughout Alberta as well as travelling abroad when there was no work in Alberta.
Larry was a strong union member of Local 110 until he retired in 2006 when he became too sick to work. He was a great mentor to many apprentices over his career. He was the longest consecutively serving job steward on the same maintenance contract in the history of Local 110. He resided in Alberta from 1978 til his final day. He had numerous family, friends and union brothers and sisters over his life and will be greatly missed by many. He is predeceased by his father Llewellyn, mother Irene and sister Carol. We’re sure he will have a great reunion with them when he gets there.
Larry is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by his wife Daphne, his sons Randy, Bob and James; his brothers Duncan (Florence), Don, Ralph (Eleanor), Kevin (Lynn), and Ivan (Sue); his sisters Gwen (Ralph) Neil, Susan (Clarence) Jordan, Sandra Jerrett, Janice Jerrett; his brothers in law Harvey (Lynn) Tulk, Wayne (Dianne) Tulk, Glen (Marlie) Tulk, Paul (Verna) Tulk, Terry (Jane) Tulk and Tony Tulk; sisters in law Dora (Ed) Skinner, Verna (Lloyd) Bixby, Marilyn (Reuben) Hillier and Jan Tulk; Larry also leaves his two precious granddaughters, Cassie and Carly as well as a wide circle of extend family and friends.
Funeral Serivces was held Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Wilson’s Funeral Chapel, Lacombe, Alberta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alberta Lung Association. Condolences may be made by visiting www.wilsonsfuneralchapel.ca
