We, the family, regret to announce the passing of Andrew Campbell Jardine on Dec. 7, 2015.
Born on June 22, 1938, he was the youngest son of the late Grace and Andrew Jardine. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Dad started working in the mines at the tender age of 17 following in the footsteps of his father. He started in Florence then went to Princess Colliery in Sydney Mines and retired from Prince in Pt. Aconi. Dad enjoyed many summer afternoons holding court on our veranda on Jardine Street with his mining buddies talking about their experiences underground. He was a faithful Toronto Maple Leafs fan. Saturday nights were his favourite night to watch his Leafs. He would get his lunch ready for the game and put on his leafs hat and shirt and to our Dad this was a perfect night. He was a quiet family man who loved the company of his large family and many friends.
Surviving is his loving wife of 55 years, Leona; daughters, Laurie (Jack), Valerie, Eileen (Shawn); sons, David (Anne Marie), Darrell (Georgina), Kenzie (Lisa), Keith (Michelle), 17 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.
Dad was predeceased by his brothers, Milton, Gerald, Elwood and sister, Alura.
Keeping with Dad’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held Friday, Dec. 11, 2015 at 2 p.m. in Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home Chapel, 10 Clyde Ave., Sydney Mines with Rev. Nick Phillips officiating. A reception will follow the service at the Florence Legion, Branch 83, Main Street, Florence.
Family flowers only, donations in his memory can be made to the Cape Breton Regional An Cala Palliative Care Unit or the lung association.
