It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of 'Joe', 77, of River Ryan on Dec. 7, 2015.
Born in Dominion, he was a son of the late Elia 'Leo' and Anna (DeSero) Vaninetti.
Joe began his career at Highland Motors, Glace Bay, in 1953. He worked at various other garages in Sydney, Glace Bay and New Waterford, and eventually opened Joe's Auto Body in 1969, where he continued until his retirement in 1992. He received his autobody certification in 1963 (certification No. 67) from the province of Nova Scotia. Joe was a true Montreal Canadiens fan and displayed their memorabilia proudly in his home.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Corinne (McCormick) Vaninetti; sons, Noel (Lynn) Vaninetti, River Ryan, Joey (Maria) Vaninetti, Laguna Hills, California; daughter, Angela (Derrick) Dupe, River Ryan; six grandchildren, Tyler (Alicia) and Kara Vaninetti, Marisa and Makayla Vaninetti, Jorden and Paige Dupe; one special great-grandchild, Jayce Sophia Vaninetti; two brothers, Guido (Sheila) Vaninetti, South Bar, Emilio (Marie) Vaninetti, Dominion; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by his son, Bobby Vaninetti, in 2010.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, from 5-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Saturday, Dec. 12, at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, River Ryan, with a luncheon to follow at St. Leonard’s Hall on Convent Street, New Waterford.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Cancer Patient Care Fund at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
