John Blandford "Lugs" Henderson
With his family by his side, the death of John Blandford "Lugs" Henderson, 86, of Springhill, occurred peacefully on the evening of Sunday, December 6, 2015 at All Saints Hospital. Born in Springhill, John was a son of the late Richard and Lillian (Mitchell) Henderson.
John had been a miner for several years in Springhill and Cape Breton. John then became a chef for a number of years prior to working 20 years as Food Services Officer for Corrections Canada. He will be remembered as a tremendous volunteer in his community and a former Deputy Mayor and Town Councilor for Springhill.
He was a devoted member of the Springhill Baptist Church.
John was a member of AA for over fifty years.
A loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, John will be deeply missed by, a daughter, Peggy (Doug) Sanders, Cardston, AB; two sons, Richie (Marion), Amherst and Robert (Renee), Springhill; special niece, Sandra (Tony) Cramb, Cronulla, AUS; seven grandchildren, Andrea, Corey, Megan, Katelyn, Kyle, Alex, and Abbi, as well as ten great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, John was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Margaret (nee Syms) and his sister, Dorothy Paton.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of A.H. Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill (902-597-2361) from where a time of visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 8, 2015 from 1-4 & 6-9pm. A funeral service will be held from the Springhill Baptist Church on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at 2 pm. Following the service, John will be laid to rest along side Margaret in the Rodney Cemetery.
