DINSMORE, SISTER KATHERINE GENEVIEVE (SISTER MARY THOMAS)
The death of Sister Katherine Genevieve Dinsmore occurred on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Ruth Ross Residence. She was born in Fredericton, NB, a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Hughes) Dinsmore.
She taught in various schools in NB prior to entering the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception on January 6, 1946. Sister Dinsmore taught in St. Francis of Assisi, Guardian Angels and St. Anthony’s Schools in Vancouver, BC
She received her B.Ed from the University of British Columbia in 1973. Sr. Katherine taught in St. Patrick’s School in West Saint John from 1969 to 1979. Following her retirement from forty years of teaching, she was responsible for the Assumption parish books and also served as organist for the French Choir. She continued her involvement in teaching in the correspondence school for catechetics in St. Joseph’s Convent until she retired to Ruth Ross Residence in the fall of 1990.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by six sisters: Rita Dinsmore, Josephine Clarke, Mary Dinsmore, Irene Dinsmore, Evelyn O’Connor and Eunice Dinsmore; four brothers: Thomas Dinsmore, Leo Dinsmore, Edward Dinsmore and Peter Dinsmore.
Resting at Ruth Ross Residence with visiting on Thursday, December 17, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm with a Prayer Vigil at 7 pm in Carmel Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 18, 2015 at 10 am in Carmel Chapel followed by interment in the Sisters of Charity plot St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
