Sister Valerie Theresa Owens (Sister M. Anne Patrick)
The death of Sister Valerie Theresa Owens occurred on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Ruth Ross Residence. Born in Saint John she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Gertrude (O’Leary) Owens. Valerie entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception on September 8, 1943 and received her NB Teacher’s License, her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education from UNB. Sister Anne began her teaching ministry and taught in St. Stephen, Saint John, Moncton NB and Digby, NS. Her teaching years in Digby included 1962-1972 and 1981-1986. Sister Owens also was director of the Renewal Centre in Digby, NS from 1987-2000, until her return to Saint John. She is survived by several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by sisters: Marie Owens, Gertrude Owens, Olive Owens, Noreen Barry, Ursula Morrison and Justine Owens; brother: Allan Owens.
Resting at Ruth Ross Residence 105 Burpee Avenue, with visiting on Monday, December 28, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Vigil prayer will be celebrated on Monday at 7:00 pm Carmel Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at 10:00 am Carmel Chapel, Ruth Ross Residence Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
