With immense sadness and shock, the family of Shawn McIntosh announce his sudden passing, Dec. 31, 2015, in Garden Hill, Manitoba.
Born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., Nov. 6, 1968, he was the beloved, youngest son of Betty McIntosh and the late Doug (RCMP) of Sydney Mines, N.S., loving husband of Young Joo, master to dog, Blue.
Shawn, a devoted Catholic and religious man, who is assuredly now in heaven, was a tall, slim, handsome, unassuming, reserved, generous, and kind fellow. In his gentle manner, greetings always with a smile and a big hug, he'll be remembered as a unique, intellectual, spiritual individual.
He was a graduate of Riverview Rural High School, BA and BED (honours) 2012 from CBU. Before pursuing his teaching career, he worked in the Toronto group home and Unity House, East Bay, N.S. His clients loved him, sometimes taking them to join his parents for supper. He showed this compassion in life and as a teacher. There are stories of him giving all his new and old clothing to those less fortunate.
Shawn's new adventure found him teaching in South Korea, where he met his soulmate and the love of his life, Young Joo. Immediately they were inseparable, returning to Canada and marrying in July 2008. He pursued his next ambition which was teaching English literature, his passion and forté. Accomplishing his BED, they made their home in Garden Hill. His passion was reading books but showed extreme talent writing stories and poems, treasured by his mother, wife and family. During his untimely death, he was a beloved teacher and mentor at Garden Hill Education Centre, dearly missed by staff and students.
Also mourning the loss is his grief stricken brother Frank (RCMP) wife Christine, loving nephews James and Joshua, Bracebridge, Ont.; Aunt Dorothy (Hardy) and uncle Stan MacDonald, their son Joe, daughter Laurie, spouses and children, Ontario; Aunt Margaret (McIntosh) Sexton; Aunt Mary (McIntosh) Murphy, North Sydney; mother-in-law Moonja; sisters in-law, Eumn Joo, Kyung Joo, Sam Joo; brother-in-law Ill, wife Meae; survived also by loving in-laws, special cousins and a host of longtime friends.
He was predeceased by father Doug, brother Jamie, grandparents Frank and Laura Hardy, James (RCMP) and Katie McIntosh, father-in-law Bonghwa Park, and many dear aunts and uncles.
The family would like to thank the Garden Hill/First Nation people for their help and support extended to Young Joo and McIntosh family in Bracebridge.
Funeral services and celebration of his life will be held in Brampton, Ont. Interment in cemetery beside his father and brother.
Donations in his memory can be made to the lunch program at Kistiganwacheeng Elementary School, Garden Hill, Manitoba, R0B 0T0, or charity of choice.
