Elizabeth Martens

Elizabeth Martens, aged 93, of Swift Current and formerly Blumenort, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at the Prairie Pioneer Lodge. Elizabeth was born on April 11, 1922, in Chortitz, MB, to Anna & Aron Neustaeter. Her family moved to Schoenfeld, SK where she grew up and attended Maharg School. Elizabeth and Cornie Martens were married on August 8, 1943 and to this union three children were born — Lillian, Betsey, and Donald. Together they farmed in the Blumenort area for many years. She was a dedicated homemaker and worked alongside Dad helping with the farm. Elizabeth was an inspiration to her children. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her special great-great-granddaughter. She also enjoyed her garden and being surrounded by her pets. Elizabeth is survived by her daughters, Lillian (Abe) Fehr, Betsey Ryan; her son, Donald Martens; her seven grandchildren, Elizabeth (Rick) Cartman, Marilyn (Bob) Dyck, James (Jodi) Fehr, Sheila (Reuben) Funk, Cathy (Cory) Lamotte, Wes (Cynthia) Fehr, Jeannie (Harold) Miskey; her 19 great-grandchildren; her great-great-granddaughter; her brothers, Ike (Ruth) Neustaeter, Bill Neustaeter, Jake (Helen) Neustaeter, Abe Neustaeter, Glen (Betty) Neustaeter; her sister, Kay (Ivan) Letkeman; sisters-in-law, Susie (John) Friesen, Ann Martens; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Cornie; her son-in-law, Terry Ryan; her twin great-granddaughters; her parents, Anna & Aron Neustaeter; her brothers, John and Aron; her sisters, Mary and Anne; eight brothers-in-law; and by nine sisters-in-law. We would like to thank Mom’s Lodge family for taking such wonderful care of her for the past five and half years. The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, January 7, 2016, at 1:00 pm from the Chapel of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK with Rev. Abe Funk officiating. The Interment was held at the Schoenfeld Cemetery, Schoenfeld, SK with the following serving as pallbearers, James Fehr, Wesley Fehr, Reuben Funk, Cory Lamotte, Rich Cartman and Bob Dyck. In memory of Elizabeth Martens, donations made to the Prairie Pioneers Lodge Auxiliary or to the SPCA would be appreciated by the family.
