Douglas Heid

Douglas Heid

Douglas Arthur Heid, age 69, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, January 8, 2016 at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK. Doug was born on April 20, 1946, in Herbert, SK, and was raised on a farm near Scottsburg, SK with seven siblings. He loved to tell tales about growing up on the farm (to this day, none of us are entirely certain which tales he was telling the truth about, but that was half the fun for Doug). In 1964, he married Marilyn Ensz, and they raised three children together, eventually settling on her dad’s farm near Neidpath, which they still own today. Doug’s favourite times were those that his family could gather together over the holidays at the farm for quad rides, card games, and too much food. Doug was a man who is very difficult to pin down in a few words. By trade, Doug worked as an electrician and a farmer. He was also an incredible artist, and always enjoyed the time he could spend working on his sketches. He loved music, and since 2001, he played guitar with his gospel music group, GloryBound. He was a comedian and a great lover of practical jokes – you could never quite guess what trick he might try to play next. Although he loved his home in Saskatchewan, he also appreciated the time he could spend traveling. He and Marilyn would spend time camping in the summer and they took several bus trips throughout Canada and the United States. Doug also traveled to Guam to rebuild the pastor’s home after a typhoon in 1993; in 1996, he returned to Guam with his own team to build a multi-purpose building for the Church of God. He also loved to hunt and fish with his friends, his son, and his grandsons, and to pick crocuses in the spring with his daughters and granddaughters. He was very active in his church, and his faith held a very important place in his life. Most importantly to him, though, Doug was a husband, a father, a grandfather, a brother and a friend. Doug cherished his family and friends, and he never failed to ensure that the people in his life knew how important they were to him. We wish we could have had more time with Doug, but the time that we did have was invaluable, full of love and laughter and innumerable fond memories. It gives us peace to know that he is reunited with his father, Arthur, his mother, Erma, and his brother, Curtis on the streets of Heaven. We know he’s waiting on the far side banks of Jordan, drawings pictures in the sand, and watching over us all. Doug’s life will be remembered and cherished by his family members and many close friends. Doug is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Ensz); his three children, Kerry (Pam) Heid of Regina, Cheryl (Jarret) Solberg of Craven, and Tammy Reed of Regina; his seven grandchildren, Megan, Jamie, and Rachel Solberg, Brendan and Colby Heid, and Hunter and Madison Reed; his siblings, Joyce (Jerry), Carol, Diane, Bryon (Bette), Beverly (Norm), and Claudia (Barry). He was predeceased by his father, Arthur Heid; his mother, Erma Schwartz; step-father, Wilfred Schwartz; his brothers, Verlan Heid (in infancy) and Curtis Schwartz; his brothers-in-law, Duke Bulbeck and Bruce Maltese; his father-in-law, Bert Ensz; and by his mother-in-law, Mary Ensz. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, January 15, 2016, at 2:00 pm from the East Side Church of God, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Joell Haugan officiating. Special music was provided by Glorybound with musicians, Nancy Peters and Al Metivier. Scripture was read by Pastor Kevin Snyder. Tributes were shared by the children, grandchildren, Lorna Reimche and Matthew Haugan. The ushers in the church were Larry Hahn, Dylan Haugan, Jim Simons and Rodney Walliser. Honorary pallbearers were Steve & Lynn Anderson, Dave & Tina Dyck, Allan & Sheila Holderbein, Ron & Lorna Reimche, and Burt & Bev Rempel. The private family Interment Service was held at the Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, SK with the following serving as pallbearers, Jared Bitschy, Matthew Haugan, Jasen Louma, Ian McGregor, Colby Schneider and Darwin Seidler. In memory of Doug Heid, donations made to West Bank Bible Camp or to the Community Baptist Church would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
