Peacefully at Victoria Haven Nursing Home Irvine, Clayton MacRae in his 104th year, surrounded by his loving caregivers.
He was born to the late Alexander and Margaret (Burns) MacRae in Balmoral, Richmond Co., the youngest of five children.
He had various careers in Nova Scotia and the U.S. In 1973 he and his wife Hilda (Peach) returned to Canada and settled in Howie Centre. After Hilda’s death, he moved to Port Morien, where he lived until he moved to Victoria Haven, where he was treated with all the love and respect he deserved.
Clayton was the last surviving member of his family. He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Gertrude Peach and Amy Peach, many nieces and nephews of the MacRae and Peach families. Also left to mourn Clayton are his two great friends, Sharon Butler and Irma Smith and their families who were his guiding lights for the last part of his life.
In 2014 he received his 65-year pin from the Masonic Temple in Sydney.
There will be no visitation. Memorial as service will be held in St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Port Morien, with Rev. Vernon Reid officiating on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, at 11 a.m.; a Masonic service will be held just before at 10:45 a.m. Burial of his ashes will be at a later date.
