It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Donald 'Don' Francis MacPherson in Bedford, N.S. on Jan 30, 2016. He was 80 years old.
Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late Donald ‘Dan’ and Catherine ‘Katie’ (Gillis) MacPherson.
Don was an active member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Lower Sackville, N.S. for over 40 years, and frequently played guitar during mass. He was employed by the Department of National Defence for over 30 years before his retirement. In addition to playing the guitar at gatherings of family and friends, he loved to cheer on the Toronto Maple Leafs and enjoyed seeing his two granddaughters.
Surviving are his wife Theresa (MacIsaac), Bedford; daughter Marie (Mrs. Tim Sanderson) and granddaughters Charlotte Mary and Lillian Grace, Toronto; brother Raymond MacPherson (Lollie) and sister Bernadette Cromwell, both of New Waterford; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers Angus, Greg, Leo, John and sisters Mary Ropek, Theresa MacDonald and Hilda MacPherson.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 2 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Barnard TK Funeral Homes, 85 Sackville Cross Rd., Lower Sackville. Funeral will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 11 a.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Lower Sackville. Father Marc Syrenne will be officiating. A reception to follow mass in the church hall, after which burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Lower Sackville.
Donations in his memory may be made to Chalice or the Lung Association of Nova Scotia.
