TOUCHIE, WILSON EDISON
September 1923-January 26, 2016
Wilson was born to Herman and Ruby (Jardine) Touchie in Quarryville, NB, the eldest of eight children.
Wilson loved the world of books and learning and left his rural roots after graduation to study business. He proudly served in the Canadian Army during WWII. After the war he found management positions with CN and TransCanada Air along with starting a restaurant called "Maggie's" on St. George Street in Moncton. But the lure of the Silver Screen drew him to Los Angeles where he studied dance with Arthur Murray and worked in the theatre. He returned to the Maritimes and enrolled in Theology studies at Mount Allison University and Pine Hill Divinity College and served the United Church of Canada in Middlewood. Wilson taught school in the Bridgewater area, served as a County Counselor, and managed the offices at the local shipyard.
Wilson had a passion for the arts and wrote poetry and painted colourful folk art. He was writer of letters to politicians of all parties as he loved politics and debating, and most important to him, championing the rights of the common man. During the last years, Wilson was a dedicated Biblical scholar who wrote and studied every day.
Wilson is survived by sisters, Margaret Moore (Robert), Riverview; Doris Atkinson, Moncton; Ruth Johnson, California; Mabel Goguen, Moncton and brother Rev. John (Jack) (Ruth) Touchie, Amherst. He was predeceased by his parents, and siblings Bernice Steeves, and Marshall (Buster) Touchie.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the dedicated, caring staff of the Veterans' unit at the Fishermen’s' Memorial Hospital in Lunenburg where Wilson lived in a loving environment since 2001.
A family service and interment will be held at a later date.
