It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Verne Marie Beaton, announce her passing on Feb. 22, 2016 at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on Feb. 17, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Bertha (Winstanley) Maddin.
Verne’s career began at the Sydney Naval Base, New Waterford Consolidated Hospital and she retired as long-standing secretary from Central and St. Agnes elementary schools. Verne was most content and happiest at home with her family. After she retired, she enjoyed travelling with family. She was a keen card player and will be missed by her club members, Lorraine, Verna, Ann and Joanne. Her greatest life accomplishment was that of wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She taught her children by example, strong values, importance of family, faith, hard work, kindness, tolerance, generosity, forgiveness and love.
Verne is survived by her daughters, Donna (David) Simms, Valerie (John) Williams, Marlene Beaton and son, Donnie (Wendy) Beaton; sister, Patricia Cooke, Medicine Hat; grandchildren, Danielle (Robert) Boudreau, Haley (Tyler) Reginato, Hilary and Laurel Williams, Tylor (Shaylin) White, Jared Beaton, Cole MacNeil; great-granddaughters, Layton, Faye; chosen grandson, Jonathan MacLeod and best friend, Joanne MacQueen, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by the love of her life, husband Donnie in 2004; brother, Sam Maddin and granddaughter, Jennifer Williams.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Verne’s life will be held on Feb. 24, 2016 at 10 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating, followed by a luncheon in the parish hall Convent Street, all are welcome. Interment in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the palliative care or Children’s Wish Foundation.
