With heavy hearts we regret to announce the passing of a dear husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend Lloyd Leyte on Feb. 20, 2016 in Calgary, AB.
Born Oct. 6, 1935 in North Sydney. He worked 34 years for Marine Atlantic until his retirement in 1997.
Lloyd was a sports enthusiast having dedicated years of service to youth recreation in North Sydney. While he was fiercely proud of his Little League Rotary Reds, one of his proudest sports moments was bringing the North Sydney Little League All Stars to play in the Canadian Little League Championships in Valleyfield, QC.
Lloyd spent countless years coaching every level of minor hockey while he also made many of good friends playing Junior and Senior hockey himself. He was a huge Toronto Maple Leafs fan, avid skater, line dancer and enjoyed many years in various bowling leagues that included his much awaited annual Marine Atlantic bowling teams road trip. After moving to Calgary he continued his passion for bowling with the Chinook Bowling League.
Lloyd’s service to others did not stop with sports. In 1972 he was awarded the Medal of Bravery for entering a burning building to help rescue three elderly ladies. Lloyd was a very giving, soft spoken man who could tell a good story. He will be dearly missed.
Lloyd is survived by his loving wife, Ruth (Burns); his children, Doug (Patricia), Lynn (Lloyd), Bruce (Lisa); the mother of Lloyd’s children, Beverly; stepchildren, Brian (Lorrie), Susan, Sharon (Jake), Douglas; grandchildren, Jessica (Mark), Coady (Dana), Ashlee (Brandon), Katelyn (Chris), Brian (Laura), Cory (Shaunna), Tyler (Melissa), Shelby, Ryan, William, Marshal, Jaxan, Makayla and Victor. Also his seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Marg (Bud), Ollie (Bud), Lina; sisters-in-law, Shirley and Lillian and many nieces and nephews. Special family friends Brian, Debbie, Paulina, little Mark and big Mark.
Lloyd was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Margaret; brothers, Clayton, Harry, George, Charles, Walter, Percy, Norman and Stanley, sisters Mildred, Myrtle, Edith, Louise and Irene.
Family members surrounded Lloyd, providing care and support during his illness and passing. He suffers no more, rest easy!
A memorial service will take place at a later date.
