With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Sandra Fraser of Lingan Road, formerly of George Street, Sydney, at the age of 65, on Feb. 24, 2016, following a two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. Sandra passed away peacefully in the palliative-care unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with her three girls and her best friend, Raylene Broussard, by her side.
Sandra was employed at Woolco/Walmart for 26 years, making many friends along the way, retiring due to illness. She was also a member of Branch 12 Legion in Sydney. Mom had a heart of gold and opened her home to many, she was known as the “band mom” to the Nova Scotia Highlanders.
She will be sadly missed by daughters, Noelle Fraser (JJ MacDonald), Debi-Jean Fraser, Vanessa (Luke) Vaillancourt; grandchildren, George and Corey, and their father, Lloyd Decoste, Jack and Victoria Vaillancourt. She is also survived by brothers, Fraser (Helen) MacKenzie, Rodger (Arlene) MacKenzie; brothers-in-law, Dan (Arlene) Fraser, Eugene (Jeannie) Fraser; sisters-in-law, Marie (Wayne) Roach, Christina (Kevin) Campbell, Donna Fraser (late Bob Fraser); special aunt Virginia 'Sis' Walzak; best friend for 61 years, Raylene Broussard; many nieces, nephews, cousins and special neighbours.
Besides her parents, Fraser and Sadie Mackenzie, she was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, George, and his parents, Dan and Eugenia (Meaney) Fraser.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the palliative-care unit of the CBRH.
Visitation for Sandra will be held on Friday, Feb. 26, 2016, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Bill Legge officiating.
