Date de décès : 1er mars 2016

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Barbara Claire Morrison, age 85, a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at the Northside General Hospital.
A resident of the Northside Community Guest Home, Barbara was formerly a resident of Tobin Ave, North Sydney.
Born in Forty Fort, Pennsylvania on July 24, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Myrtle (Compton) Templeton. Following her mother’s early death, she was raised by her father, as well as her Aunt Marion and Uncle 'Doc' Lichtenwalner. Upon her father’s remarriage to Bermetta Fredericks, she was joined by half-siblings Mignonette, Margaret and Miller. Her nephews Greg and Bruce Gover, were especially dear to her, as were her Cousin Jean’s children, Cherif and Mona Zahir.
A graduate of Wilkes College, Barbara worked as a decorator, book shop assistant, and phone operator as well as serving in the United States Navy for a time. She met Carl Morrison in 1964; they married and settled in North Sydney to raise two daughters. For many years, she was involved in Northside HeartBeats, a fitness group in the local area, eventually teaching yoga, meditation and Tai Chi as well as traditional exercise. She loved reading and was a regular visitor to the North Sydney and Sydney Mines branches of the Cape Breton Regional Library. In particular she loved history, archaeology/Egyptology, and biography, although she also enjoyed a good mystery. She was a wonderful storyteller herself, and was always full of stories to entertain. She always was happy to provide a “listening ear” and sound advice. She was a pillar of strength for her family, handling challenges with grace and ease. She had a unique voice, loved to sing and had a boisterous laugh. She was an avid gardener and maintained a beautiful yard; the Magnolia tree in particular was near and dear to her heart.
She is survived by her two daughters, Jean Morrison, Shubenacadie and Bermetta Morrison-Phillips (Walter Fougere), Halifax, and her three grandchildren, Haley, Chelsea and Cameron Fougere. She is also survived by a number of cousins, nieces and nephews, including Bruce Gover, Cherif Zahir and Mona Phillips. Special friends who became like family include Therese Pigeon, Paul Ettinger, and Lisa Hiscott, as well as “adopted” granddaughter, Alisha Leanne Hiscott.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Carl Morrison, brother Miller Fredericks and sisters, Mignonette and Margie, and nephew Greg Gover.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Northside Community Guest Home for the many acts of kindness and care shown to Barbara during the past two years. The family would also like to thank Charles Parsons, J.D. Ramsay, Donna Rappard, and Kathleen Bunin for their many kindnesses to Barbara.
Visitation for Barbara will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday in W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at W. J. Dooley Funeral Home with Margorie Serafinus officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to Friends of Cape Breton Homeless Animals.
