Edith "Peggy" Cameron
CAMERON, EDITH "PEGGY"
Edith "Peggy" Cameron, a long-time resident of Upper Coverdale, passed away Monday the 7th of March at the Moncton Hospital at the age of 92.
Born on August 12, 1923 in Pereaux, Nova Scotia, Peggy worked at the Spencer’s Nursing Home for many years as a Nursing Attendant until retirement.
For many years Peggy was a member of the “Beaver Curling Club” and the “Moncton Bowlers” and enjoyed the company of the many friends she met. Her special passion was down hill and cross-country skiing. Along with her dog, Sam, she would pack a lunch and spend the day skiing the trails behind her house. She learned to downhill ski at the age of 60 and spent many weekends at the Poley Mountain and Wentworth Valley Ski Hills. She was “ecstatic” when she turned 70, as she was then eligible to ski for free.
Peggy enjoyed spending summers at her cottage in Caissie Cape with her best friend, Eleanor Sheehan. She was also a lover of animals and loved her cats dearly as well as feeding all of the neighborhoods stray cats. She was “fiercely independent” and lived in her own home until February 2016.
Peggy is survived by her three children: Carolyn Norman (Alan) from Upper Coverdale, Terry Steepe (Mark) from Charlotte, NC and Gregory Cameron (Kim) from Upper Coverdale. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Alan (Jerrica), Chad, Amanda, Bradley and Dawn (Nick) as well as three great-grandchildren: Bella, Anthony and Brody.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband Donald, son Gary, eight brothers and seven sisters.
There will be no funeral service at her request. A private family gathering will be held. Arrangements are in the care of Salisbury Funeral Home & Crematorium (372-4800).
Memorial gifts may be made to the Heart and Stroke Association, the Cancer Society or the Humane Society. www.keirsteads.ca
