Ray “Buttons” Kimber, longtime resident of Dawson Creek,
British Columbia, passed away on November 4, 2015 in Edmonton, Alberta, at 78 years of age. Ray was born March 19, 1937 in
Blaine Lake, Saskatchewan. He was the fifth child of eleven born to
Alvina and William Kimber.
In 1964 Ray and Esther Engstrom were married and raised their two children Shelly and Garnett in Dawson Creek, British Columbia.
“Buttons” worked for the city for 14 years. He also hauled asphalt for Arrow Paving for 3 years, taking his family up to Yellowknife for the summer. He worked his later years driving Wapco at Quintette Coal Mine in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia. He retired early after 17 years.
All through his life Ray enjoyed sports, playing hockey for the Old Timers and even joined the same baseball team as his adult children. When he had spare time, he enjoyed fly fishing in the summer and ice fishing in the winter. In Ray’s younger years he took his family camping, and as a senior he liked to quad and had many backyard BBQs.
Ray loved to joke, laugh, and visit with friends. After he retired he became an avid walker, making his route through the downtown area and was seen by many with a friendly wave. He enjoyed his grandchildren, Sydney and Aaron, whether picking them up from school or spending time at Man Made Lake.
Ray played his guitar daily, enjoyed Christmas traditions and singing with friends and family.
Ray was a husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend. He will be missed by many.
A funeral service was held Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Bergeron’s Funeral Chapel, Dawson Creek, British Columbia. Officiated by family friend Jim Mah.
