McDOWELL, HELEN ARLENE
(1919 - 2016)
Mrs. Arlene McDowell of Grand Harbour, Grand Manan Island passed away at the Grand Manan Nursing Home on Thursday, March 3, 2016. She was born at North Head the daughter of the late John Jack and Ella (DeNully) Smith.
Arlene was a faithful founding member of Central Wesleyan Church where she had been a Sunday school teacher for many years. Many of her summers where spent at Beulah Camp with her family and friends. For twenty nine years she was the manager of Haley Lumber Co.
Arlene is survived by one daughter Susan Hindle (Thomas) of Halifax, NS, and one son Wiley McDowell (Charlotte) of Grand Harbour, Grand Manan, six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Joseph McDowell in (1990), one great grandson. Four sisters; Marie Merriam, Eleanor Russell,Jean Swingley, Dora Brown, and two brothers; Prescott and Seldon Smith.
Visiting will take place at Central Wesleyan Church from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm on Sunday, March 13th. The Funeral Service will take place at the church on Monday March 14, 2016 at 1:00pm with Rev. Mel Norton, Rev. Wayne Roberston, and Rev. Steve Brown leading the celebration of Arlene's life. There will be a grave side service later in the spring at Maple Grove Cemetery.
