It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful husband, father grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Earle Cornforth, age 89, on Friday, March 11, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Birch Grove and raised in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Henry and Grace (Shepard) Cornforth.
Earle was an accomplished mechanic working at an automotive dealership in Hamilton and later returned to Cape Breton in 1972, where he drove school bus until his retirement.
He enjoyed creating model cars, trains, and airplanes, was a member of Cape Breton RC Modelers and spent fun weekends with family at the flying field. He was an animal lover, especially dogs and had many throughout his lifetime. Earle was an accomplished guitar player, yodeler and singer and enjoyed performing at family gatherings.
Earle was a wonderful family man and family always came first. He was a great provider, hard worker, and a loving father and husband, he will be greatly missed.
Earle is survived by his loving wife, Marie, of almost 66 years; his three children, (the late) “Joe” Joseph Cornforth, Debbie Cornforth (George Tomie) Glenn (Yvonne) Cornforth; his wonderful grandchildren, Jennifer, Lisa, Kimberly, Melissa, Joshua, Megan, Morgan; his precious great-grandchildren, Ryker, Kiai, Emmett and Aislyn. He is also survived by his sisters, Thelma Ashe and Rhoda (Larry) Dowe; brother-in-law, Sam Waye, many nieces and nephews as well as the extended Ward family.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Joseph; brother, George; sisters, Rita, Lena, Verna, Verta, and Ada.
The family would like to send a special thanks to Dr. George Burns and Tina, for their many excellent years of service and support.
Many thanks to the Homecare workers, Kelly from the VON, doctors, nurses and staff of the palliative care unit for all their gentle and loving care and compassion. A special thanks to his daughter-in-law Yvonne for everything she did for Earle as his home care nurse.
Cremation has taken place. A private graveside service will be held in the morning on Monday May 23, 2016 in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Main-a-Dieu.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the An Cala Unit, Palliative Care, CBRH.
