Joseph Leger

Léger, Joseph Léopold “Paul”
Joseph Léopold “Paul” Léger, 82, of the Villa Providence, Shediac, passed away on March 17, 2016 surrounded by loved ones, due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease. Born in Bouctouche, NB on May 1, 1933, he was the son of the late Joseph and Viola (Mooney) Léger.
Dad was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Air Force. Over his 36 years of service, he was stationed in Chatham, Germany, Egypt, Summerside, Winnipeg, Comox, Gagetown and Montréal prior to his retirement. He was also a Commissionaire at the Moncton Airport.
Throughout the years in the many places that we lived, he was always a key figure in the scouts, his church Choir and the Knights of Columbus. Music was very important to Dad. His version of Danny Boy was a favourite, especially with his fellow guests at O Bons Soins a recording of which was featured in a CBC morning radio show.
The most important thing to Dad was his family. He is survived by two children: Nadine de Blois (Paul) and Joel (Margaret) both of Dartmouth, NS; his sister, Violette Bourque of Moncton; and brother, Laurenzo “John” of Shediac; five grandchildren: Adrienne, Marissa, Nic (Justine), Zac (Heather), Ben (Morgan); two great-grandchildren: Malaya Joy, Isaiah and by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Aline Cormier (2008) and their infant son, Roger (1964).
The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church, 11 St-Andrews Road, Pointe-du-Chêne followed by a reception at the Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 396 Main Street, Shediac (532-3297). Interment will be with his wife at the St-Joseph Roman Catholic cemetery at a later date.
In memory of Dad, a contribution to the Alzheimer’s Society, or to the Knights of Columbus would be appreciated.
Special thanks to the staff of Villa Providence unité Soleil and O’ Bons Soinsl, for the excellent care given to Dad.
Cremation and funeral arrangements are in the care of Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, Shediac (532-3297).
