It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Olive Irene Porter, age 93, of Fenwick, NS. Olive passed away surrounded by family at Northumberland Hall, Amherst on Sunday, March 13, 2016.
Born in Fenwick, NS, she was a daughter of the late Percy and Evelyn " Annie" (Bulmer) Ripley.
In her early years she enjoyed working as a clerk at Barkers until her marriage to Cyril Porter in 1943 Following their marriage they owned and operated the Rocky Lane Dairy farm until retirement. Olive was a Superintendent of the Junior Sunday School and Steward of the Fenwick United Church for many years. Olive was a member of the UCW and the Sewing Circle. Olive and Cyril were very active in their community. They were members of the Cumberland Twirlers where they enjoyed dancing and traveling.
She enjoyed quiet time and working on crafts, sewing projects, quilting and growing flowers. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her children and her siblings. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren at the beach. Our mom took a great pride in her family.
Olive will be dearly missed by daughters Ann Landry of Avonport, N.S., Carol Paquin (Ed Coates) of Moncton, N.B.; son Wayne (Judy) of Fenwick, N.S.; sisters Helen Bacon of Upper Nappan, N.S., Pauline Read of Amherst, N.S., Phyllis Lowe (Art) of Picton, Ont.; brothers Robert Ripley of Fenwick, N.S, Donald Ripley (Mary) of Fenwick, N.S., ; 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Cyril J. Porter; brothers Cecil and Walter, son in law Bill Landry.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Furlong-Jones Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 2p.m. Burial will take place in the Fenwick Cemetery in the spring.
For those wishing to do so, donations may be made to the Fenwick Cemetery Fund or charity of choice.
