David 'Dave' Douglas Coffin

Lieu de naissance : Sydney

Lieu de décès : Havre Boucher
Date de décès : 16 mars 2016

David ‘Dave’ Douglas Coffin of Havre Boucher, N.S., passed away at home on Friday, March 18, 2016, at age 69.
Dave grew up in Sydney, Cape Breton. In his younger years, he was an avid bowler and brought home many trophies, making his dad so very proud. Though he had not lived in Sydney for many years, whenever he visited from Havre Boucher, he would often stop by and visit the bowling alley and old friends any time he was in town.
Dave’s work as an independent distributor for Eastern Bakeries brought him to Havre Boucher where he became well known as “the bread man”. He also discovered not one, but two bowling alleys: one in Port Hawkesbury and one in Antigonish! With two bowling leagues for recreation and a new job, “the milk man” began a new route for Farmer’s Dairy. He enjoyed interacting with his customers and came home with many entertaining stories which carried him to retirement in 2007. Many people often spotted Dave at The Big Stop or Tim Horton’s over the years and little got in the way of him picking up The Cape Breton Post and of course, scratch tickets! Dave loved his cozy perch on the hill overlooking the Strait. Whenever his mom reminded him that he was living “on the wrong side of the Causeway”, he retorted with, “I can see Creignish, your homeland, from my living room window!”
Dave was an avid fan of music, always listening to and sharing his latest musical discovery. Although David did not sing with his sisters, some of his fondest memories included gathering around the piano while listening to them perform for company. Often, when asked what instrument he played, he would proudly respond, “the record player”.
In his most recent years, Dave was blessed with three amazing grandchildren, Ava, Ethan and Owen. He was lovingly referred to as ‘Ubba’ by grandchildren Ava and Ethan and he loved having them live so close. Dave was truly idolized by Ethan, who followed his every step and looked forward to visits with “Ubba” at every possible opportunity. Ubba also welcomed new grandson, Owen in December, 2015.
Dave will be sadly missed forever by his wife of 44 years, Maureen (Black) and daughters, Tiffany (Denivaldo), Audrey (Tom) and Lori-Anne; sisters, Cheryl (Sheldon), Kathy (John), Annette (Jo Ann), Laurie, and Marguerite (Hugh). Dave also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins with whom he shared a lifetime of happy memories, and one remaining aunt, Louise Coffin.
He was predeceased by parents, Elizabeth and Vincent Coffin, and son, David, who died in infancy.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place at the Havre Boucher Community Centre on Saturday, March 26th from 2-4 p.m. Burial will take place at a later date, when Dave will return home to his final resting place in Cape Breton.
Memorial donations may be made to Cathy's Place Cancer Resource Room, ROC Society or charity of your choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Green's Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
