MACKINNON, MARY LORETTA
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a dear sister, aunt and friend Loretta who passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 2, 2016 in Parkstone Enhanced Care, Halifax, at the age of 82. Born in North Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Murdoch and Mary Mackinnon.
She is survived by her sisters, Anne, Miriam Deveau (Terry); brothers, Francis (Mary Steele), Paul (Denise McDonnell); nieces, Jennifer – Cooper (Shawn), Rosalie Horsford (Andrew); nephews, Corey and Stephen Deveaux (Robyn), and Russell MacKinnon. She will be greatly missed by the Olding family for whom she was a cherished friend and mentor.
Loretta began her teaching career in Saint John, NB, and retired as principal of St. Vincent’s High School. She was highly regarded by her students and staff. She leaves many friends to mourn her. She was a talented musician who not only sang but also played the piano and organ. Loretta possessed a great zest for life and was always ready for a challenge to learn and absorb new ideas.
Special thanks to the wonderful caregivers of Citadel Court, Parktsone Enhanced Care for their loving care and compassion to Loretta. She also received loving care from the staff of Evan Hall.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Joseph’s Church, North Sydney, on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 10 am.
Donations may be made to St. Vincent’s Scholarship Fund (Saint John, NB) or to a charity of choice.
