SMITH, John Henry “Jack”, Shelburne, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 1, 2016, while surrounded by his family, in Roseway Hospital, at the age of 90. Born in Halifax he was a son of the late Randolph and Daisy (Meisner) Smith. Jack enlisted at the age of 19 for service in the Canadian Army Signal Corps and later transferred to the Provo Corps. After the war he became an employee with MT & T for 38 years. He was a member of the Shelburne Lions and a member of the Shelburne Volunteer Fire Department. Besides his family, Jack had many passions, including hunting, fishing, painting and most importantly, sailing. Countless hours were spent sailing Shelburne Harbour in his beloved sailboat “Melody”. Jack was quite a musician and loved playing “old time” fiddle music as well as playing his piano, banjo, mandolin and accordion. He is survived by sister, Queenie Atwood; children, Paul (Doris); Jack (April); and Randy, all of Shelburne; and Richard (Sheila), Saskatoon; grandchildren, Chris (Teri), Craig (Robin), Stephen (Hollie), Ryan (Cara) and Roscoe; great-grandchildren, Owen, Avery, Reese, Leah, Rylynne and Piper. He was predeceased by his wife, Edith Belliveau of 30 years; brothers, Winston and Roscoe. In later years he was predeceased by his companion, Margaret Swaine. In accordance with Jack`s wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Homes and Crematorium Ltd., and there will be no visitation or service. A family gathering will take place at a later date to join his ashes with those of his wife Edith. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of Roseway Hospital for the excellent care they provided to Jack.
