Janice "Jan" Adele (Black) Gordon

Gordon, Janice “Jan” Adele (Black) – 68, of Wentworth, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2016, after a 4.5 year battle with cancer. She spent her last couple of weeks in the Palliative Care Unit of Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born on March 10, 1948 in Winnipeg, she was the daughter of the late William and Jean (McCaw) Black. She is survived by her husband, J. David Gordon, MD; daughter, Melissa (Heath) Moore of Halifax; son, Graeme (Celena Smith) of Yarmouth; grandchildren, Charlie and Brandon Moore; Hailey and Ruby Gordon; brother, John A. Black, Dartmouth; many cousins and dear friends, and by her beloved puppies, Koko and Mimi. She was predeceased by her daughter, Amy Rebecca in 2005. Jan graduated from Oxford Regional High School in 1966. She then attended Mount Allison University for a year before studying nursing at the Children’s Hospital in Halifax. She graduated from nursing in 1970 shortly before marrying David in August of 1970. Jan and Dave spent time working and living in Halifax, Digby, Oxford and Truro, before moving full-time to Mattatall Lake in Wentworth in 2010. Jan enjoyed spending time reading, puzzling, and travelling, especially to New Zealand. She also enjoyed people and loved spending time with family and good friends. In her last few days Jan said, “It’s good to be kind”. That is how she lived life; full of love and grace. Arrangements are in the care of MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home and Crematorium (902-447-2930). A celebration of Jan’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 10 in Wentworth United Church, with a reception to follow the service.
