Macaulay (nee Marsch) – Cora Wanda was born on May 15, 1918 at Abbey, Saskatchewan. With the untimely death of her mother Wanda, Cora became adept at housekeeping at an early age and later did housework for a number of families. Along the way, she met James Macaulay, a farmer from west of Leinan. They began over 72 years of married life together, tending their one section of land carefully and resourcefully until moving to Swift Current in 1992. They raised two children Catherine and Kent. James and Cora ensured that the family unit was active in all types of community and individual pursuits. On her part, Cora was an enthusiastic 4-H leader, curler, and Lutheran Ladies' Aid member. On a more individual level, Cora loved to walk, read, garden, write and receive letters, and travel with James--whether it be camping in their Funcraft or exploring internationally with good friends. Some of Cora's individual interests became a service to the community, as when she was frequently called upon to provide a reading for a special occasion, and when her decision at age 65 to take up oil painting led to her participation in the 55-Plus Art Club, with its many art shows and tours. Today, Cora's paintings grace several households throughout southwest Saskatchewan and beyond. Cora led her life with integrity, generosity and modesty. She was a firm believer in human equality, in social justice, and in honouring diversity. She was truly "small but mighty". Cora is survived by her 24-karat-gold husband James Macaulay; her daughter Catherine and son Kent (Thom Knutson), whose values and life pursuits were always a source of pride for her; Kent's former partner Catherine Barnsley; her brother John (Margaret) Marsch; her sister-in-law May Marsch; her brother-in-law Jack Macaulay; and many treasured nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cora has deeply cherished her extended family, friends and neighbours. Cora was pre-deceased by her parents Wanda and Gustav Marsch; sisters Hilda (Dave) Reimer, Erna (George) Harris, and Elsie (Mike) Reimer; and brother Gus (May) Marsch. Also by her parents-in-law Margaret and Peter Macaulay; a brother-in-law Dewaine (Marie) Macaulay; and sisters-in-law Agnes (Ed) Kruse, Margaret (Jack) Macaulay, and Freda (Jack) Butler. A Celebration of Cora's Life will take place at 1:30 p.m. this coming Wednesday, April 6 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Swift Current.
