It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister and friend Lucienne ‘Lucy’ Braaten (Monette). Lucy passed away peacefully at the Palliative Care Unit, St. Paul’s Hospital, Saskatoon, April 3, 2016 at the age of 81 years after her courageous battle with cancer.
She is survived and will be sadly missed by her loving husband and best friend Ken; children: Gerald (Myrna) Braaten, Blaine (Molly) Braaten, Kerry (Alison) Braaten, Robbie (Kathy) Braaten, Janice (Rob) Harasymchuk; grandchildren: Dustin (Kylie), Brett (Erin), Jennifer (Nathan), Kristin (Simon), Lacey, Kadie (John), Janel (Bryce), Jameson, Justin, Logan (Mallorie), Keegan, Kalli and Zak; great grandchildren: Tessa, Autumn, MacKenzie, Mason, Caila, Dakota, Landon, Nora, Julie, Joelle, Caleb, Bryer and Beau; sister Bernie Riediger and brother Vital (Shirley) Monette. She was predeceased by her parents David and Gilberte Monette, sisters Jeanne St. Jacques, Cecile Metivier, brother Charlie Monette, son-in-law Grant Sadowick and grandson Tyler Braaten.
Lucy was born in 1934 at Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan. She attended school at Lac Pelletier and one year at the convent in Swift Current. Ken and Lucy were married in Lac Pelletier on October 28, 1952. Lucy’s passion was her family. She was an exceptional mother, mentor, loving spouse, fabulous cook and meticulous housekeeper. Lucy was a self-taught gifted piano and organ player. She loved music and appreciated all who would share their talents with her. There were many family and friend gatherings centered on music and singing. Lucy excelled in various capacities with different companies throughout her illustrious sales career which only ended weeks before her death. Lucy demonstrated a remarkable flare for creativity, evident in everything from her hand made china dolls, her immaculately decorated home, to her crafts she made while she and Ken wintered in Arizona.
A Memorial Service for Lucy was held on Friday, April 8, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home in Saskatoon (east on 8th St, first right past Briargate Rd). A private interment for immediate family occurred directly following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Lucy’s memory may be made to the St. Paul’s Hospital Palliative Care Unit (1702 20th St W, Saskatoon, SK S7M 0Z9) or the Children’s Hospital of Saskatchewan (#1-345 3rd Ave S, Saskatoon SK S7K 1M6).
