SHEPHARD, GEORGE ELLIS
On Friday, April 15th, 2016, George Ellis Shephard, loving husband of Barbara (Osborne) passed away at Bobby’s Hospice. Born August 1st, 1937 in Saint John, New Brunswick, he was the son of the late Walter and Alice (Cheeseman).
Ellis grew up in Musquash, N.B. until the age of 26. He was a very hardworking, generous, well respected and easy-going man. He spent the duration of his working career at NB Tel for 42 years until his retirement. Ellis was a part of the Liberal Association and a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers. He really appreciated the small things in life such as nature, hunting, fishing, working on cars and spending time outdoors, including the special memories shared with his family and friends at their trailer at Cassidy Lake over 25 years. He took great enjoyment in talking about politics and current issues around the world.
More importantly, he was devoted to his family. Ellis and Barbara have celebrated 52 years together and were married on September 14, 1963, having been together since the ages of 15 and 16.
Ellis is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Barbara (Osborne), cherished daughter, Trish Shephard-Fleming (Mike) and Ellis’s little princess, Katie all of Saint John, N.B., sisters-in-law; Shirley Gratto of Kingston, Ontario and Jean Shea of Quispamsis, N.B. He will be missed by his best friend, Gary Smith, cousin, Dougie Shephard, special friends; Celyn Chambers, Norbert Gallant, Eric Harding and Heather Fleming also his fur grandchildren; Lily and Georgia, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Ellis is predeceased by his brother, Alward Shephard and sister, Nola Warnock.
Ellis’s funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Tuesday, April 19 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Celebration of Ellis’s Life will be held from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, April 20 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Ocean View Memorial Gardens.
