SOMERS, BERTUS JEAN
1917 - 2016
Bertus Jean Somers, formerly of Cherrylawn Drive in Moncton, passed away peacefully at ProTem Health Services, with her loving family by her side, on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at the age of 99. Born in Moncton, Bertus was the daughter of the late George and Della (Calkin) Randall. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Bertus was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her warm hospitality and her dedication to her family and faith. “Nanny’s” door was always open for a visit, a cup of tea and something sweet to eat. Her bright smile and kind heart will be sadly missed.
She was a member of First United Baptist Church, of the Dr. Zella Clarke Missionary Group, of the Idle Hour Group, of the Westmorland Chapter I.O.D.E and a Dominion Life member of the UBWMS.
Bertus was predeceased by her loving husband George W. Somers (1993); daughter Janice West (1989); son, Lowell (1999); son-in-law, Fred Pfeiffer (2008); sisters, Doris and Martha; and brother Kent.
She is survived by her daughters, Charlotte; Myrna Colwell (Charles); Eileen Bell (Donald); Cynthia Pfeiffer; and Sally; her sons, Kent (Claire); and George, (Dawn); as well as nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of ProTem, 61 Gorge Road for their wonderful care of our mother.
Resting at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. A Service to Celebrate the life of Bertus will be held at Fergusons Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 11:00 am with Rev. Delbert Bannister and Rev. Dr. J. Richard Jackson officiating. Reception in the Funeral Home Reception Centre following the service. Interment will be held in Fair Haven Memorial Gardens.
