Rose ‘Marie’ (Nicoletti) Anthony, age 81, of Kennetcook, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax.
Born in Dominion, Cape Breton on Feb. 5, 1935, she was the daughter of Anna Luigia (Ravanello) Nicoletti and the late Guiseppe 'Pino' Nicoletti.
While she was raising her children, Marie went back to school to achieve her dream of becoming a nurse, and worked at several hospitals and care homes. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and visiting with friends and family. Marie was an adventurous, exuberant woman who travelled the world and truly loved life. Marie was the loving wife of Marsden ‘Junior’ Anthony; the cherished mother of Frank (Jane) Vassallo, Carol Ann (MacLeod) Vassallo, Stephen (Margaret) Vassallo, Gina (Kevin) Vassallo, and Marsden’s dear children Susan (John) Bartlett and Steven (Monique) Anthony; mother-in-law to Alan, Danny and Bonnie; and devoted grandmother of Evan, Reid, Adam, Thomas, Sarah, Lauren, Anthony, Kennedy, Jackson, Jylian, James, Dawson, Bradley, Emma, great-grandson Noah and great-granddaughter Kira. She is also survived by her mother Anna; brother Livio (Carole) Nicoletti; sisters Norma (Bob) Cooke, Rina (Greg) Gouthro, Rita (Jim) Tompkins; several nieces and nephews who adored their Zia.
Besides her father, Marie was predeceased by her daughter Andrea Vassallo (Blake) and brother Fulvio.
She will be fondly remembered by many cherished friends, extended family and the Kennetcook community.
The family wishes to acknowledge the nurses, physicians and staff at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre in Truro and the QEII Health Sciences Centre, especially the staff on 7.4 – Neurology, for their care and kindness.
Cremation has taken place with no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held at Kennetcook United Church, Hwy 236, Kennetcook, on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 2 p.m., Rev. Natalie Buchanan-Rutherford officiating, with a private family interment in Kennetcook Cemetery. Following the service, there will be a reception at the Kennetcook Fire Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Marie may be made to the Kennetcook Cemetery.
