Bishop, Robert Lane Girvan
It is with sadness that we announce the death of Robert L. G. Bishop, who passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Friday, April 29, 2016. Born in Saint John in 1920, he was the son of the late Alexander Griffith and Mary (Girvan) Bishop and husband of the late Mary Elizabeth (Holder) Bishop.
Loved and greatly missed by his sons, R. Lane Bishop (Diane) of Kars, NB and John D. Bishop of Toronto, ON; daughters, Elizabeth M. Morton (Ross) of Kingston, ON and Anne L. Gautier (Paul) of Rothesay, NB; also by grandchildren, Pamela, Laura and Geoffrey Bishop, James (Amy), Sarah (Ian Harris) and Jack Morton, Patricia (Aaron Kramer), Joanna and Robert Gautier; great-grandson, Alexander Morton; sister-in-law, Muriel Bishop of Oakville, ON and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Chapman and two brothers, Pete and Jack Bishop.
A graduate of Saint John High School, he joined the Canadian Army in 1940 and served overseas with the 2nd Armoured Brigade, RCASC. Following graduation from the University of New Brunswick in 1949 with a B.Sc. (Forestry), he was employed by the Provincial Government in the Forest Service and from 1966-75 served as Deputy Minister of the Department of Natural Resources and for seven years in a similar position with the Department of Municipal Affairs until his retirement in 1982.
While living in Fredericton during his employment years, Bob was an active member of Christ Church Cathedral and held various positions in forestry groups and service organizations. Since 1997 he resided in Rothesay, NB.
Bob’s family would like express their gratitude to Dr. Joanne Fellows, Dr. Lisa Sutherland and the caring staff at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Rothesay on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 11:00 AM. A private interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. www.BrenansFH.com
