Albert Horsman

HORSMAN, ALBERT NEIL
1925 - 2016
It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Albert N. Horsman, 90, a wonderful brother and uncle, who, in accordance to his wishes, died at home in O'Neil's - Indian Mountain- on Sunday evening, May 8th, 2016. Born August 25, 1925 he was the son of the late Harry and Dora Horsman.
A lifetime farmer, Allie and his sister Nina ran a successful dairy farm, later converted to a beef operation, which remains in the family to this day. The farm was a prime attraction for boys and girls from all around who were rewarded for helping to make hay or other little chores with pocket money or fish & chips or iced-cream on a Saturday night. Or possibly it was his “old enough to steer, old enough to drive policy” which drew them. Driving the farm tractor or truck was definitely the most favored of tasks for any upcoming young operator. Like his late sister Nina, Allie loved kids and kids loved Allie.
A very generous man, it was said that “Allie never learned to say the word no”, he was continuously helping people, from hauling cars out of ditches and snow banks to helping on some woodpile or assisting people to move. He was a man who loved to tease, who could effortlessly imitate people, birds and animal sounds, and who loved to whistle and sing.
Allie was a lover of new cars, his air-conditioned tractor cab, cattle, his many cats, as well as hockey and baseball. He enjoyed planting and watching things grow in the field and in the garden. He was also happy working in the woods, especially if there was a big, old tree near the end of its term just ready for him to cut. In his later years, he often compared himself to such trees, knowing, as he would often say, that death is a part of life.
A friend to all that knew him, good bye Al, we will miss you...
Left with fond memories are his sister Phyllis Bulmer (the late Howard) of Irishtown, his numerous nieces and nephews, and his friends and neighbours. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Harrison and Christopher Howe and by sisters Audrey Gillcash, Nina Horsman and Bertha Demmings.
A graveside burial and committal service will be held at the Horsman Cemetery, Lutes Mountain, on Sunday, May 15th, 2016 at 3 p.m. with Rev. John Weiler officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Lutz Mountain Meeting House immediately following the graveside service.
A special thank you to the Extra Mural Nurses for outstanding and compassionate home health-care. Thanks also to the Red Cross for the equipment they provided.
Donations in Albert’s memory made to Extra Mural (through the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation), to the Red Cross or to a charity of the donor's choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Tuttle Brothers & Riverview Funeral Home 214 Pine Glen Rd. Riverview, NB (506) 857-8564. Online condolences can be made at www.tuttlefuneralhome.ca.
