SURETTE, Leona Frances – age 87 of Brooklyn, Yarmouth Co., NS passed away in Yarmouth Regional Hospital on May 11, 2016 surrounded by her family. Born in Brooklyn, Yarmouth Co., she was a daughter to the late Franklyn and Frances (Thibodeau) Garron. Leona was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Brooklyn and was known as a wonderful lady that loved life and helped raise many of her nieces and nephews. In her spare time she loved to play the guitar and her sense of humor was the life of the party. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years John “Eddie” Surette; 5 nieces and 8 nephews; and her sister, Stella Amon, Brooklyn. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her brothers Joseph, Victor, and Ernest Garron and Dennis in infancy; and her sister, Gladys McIntosh. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweenys Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation was held Friday, May 13, 2016 from 7-9 p.m. with prayers at 8 p.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service was held Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 2 p.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel, Deacon Stephen Bourque officiated. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery.
