It is with broken hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Rafe Bavis. He was a wonderful husband father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a friend to many. Rafe passed away at the Health Sciences Complex in St John's on May 11, 2016. He goes to join his daughter Maurita and parents Maurita and Thomas Bavis. Rafe leaves to mourn his wife and best friend of 49 years Karen Bavis (Thistle), son, Ken (Michelle) and their daughters Makayla and Claire - the joys of his life, daughter Marg and her children Melissa, Dillon, and Zachary of whom he was so proud. Rafe also leaves brothers Ron (Patsy), Bill (Mary), Jack (Marguerite) and sisters Dianne Gladney (Joe), Shirley Clarke (Keith), Ita Pittman (Ray), Peggy Fowler (Terry) and his brother-in-law and best friend Ron Thistle (Jose) and sister-in-law Maxine Thistle. As well he leaves a large circle of nieces and nephews who were very special to him. He will be missed by his many dart and bowling buddies and special friends Calvin and Willa Cole whom he spent many holidays and special times with. We send a very special thank you to all the nurses and doctors in the Emergency Department and 4 South A at the HSC. Their help, kindness and guidance comforted us during our difficult time. Visitation will take place at Barrett's Funeral Home, 73 Commonwealth Ave., Mount Pearl on Friday, May 13, 2016 from 7-9 pm and Saturday, May 14, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will take place at Mary Queen of the World Church on Topsail Road, Monday, May, 16,2016 at 9:30 am. Inurnment will follow directly at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully accepted or donations can be made in his memory to Crohn's and Colitis Canada. He was the sunshine of our life. He lived by his motto.
