Leita A. Clements, 91 years of age, of Amherst, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2016 at the Northumberland Hall. Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Arnold & Jessie (Bacon) Baxter.
Leita was a master hairdresser. She owned and operated Rita's Beauty Shop for over 25 years. She was a member of the 1st Baptist Church. Leita was a Pythian Sister, Elizabeth Lodge #6 and was a member of the Women's Institute of East Amherst. She enjoyed painting and was fluent in several types of art, including water, oil and acrylic. Her art was displayed in several exhibits throughout Nova Scotia and Eastern New Brunswick and her work can be found in almost all provinces in Canada and several states in the USA.
She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Joyce MacSwain (Ivan "Ted") of Dartmouth, N.S., Marjorie Embree of Toronto, ON; sisters, Dorothy Hutchinson of Texas, USA, Elsie Richard of Dieppe, NB; brothers Ernest (Betty) of Truemanville, Guy (Barbara) Portapique, NS; five grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband John Embree, second husband, Stanley Clements, brothers Arnold, Leslie & Donald, sister in law, Nora.
Arrangements are under the direction and care of furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777). As per Leita's request cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at the Amherst Cemetery on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 1 p.m.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Northumberland Hall and Centennial Villa for their care of mom over these past years.
