Marie Murray
MURRAY, MARIE T.
The family of Marie (Groves/Carter) Murray is saddened to announce her passing on June 25th, 2016 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on July 13th, 1925, in Saint John, NB, to the late Frank and Ella Groves.
Marie was preceded in death by her first husband, John W. Carter as well as her second husband, Patrick “Paddy” Murray.
Marie is survived by her sisters, Phyllis (Girlie) of Winnipeg, Jean of Riverview and Therese of Halifax; children, Douglas (Geraldine) of Geary, David of Calgary, Anne Focsaneanu (Georges) of Ottawa, Peggy Hebblethwaite (David) of Melany, Australia and Stephen (Allen Selby) of Fredericton; as well as nine grandchildren; and eleven great–grandchildren. Marie is also survived by her step–children, Mary Ann Carr (Joe) of Haneytown, Carl Murray (Carol) of Haneytown, Ron Murray (Elizabeth) of Fredericton, Maurice Murray (Jackie) of Grand Bay–Westfield, Allen Murray (Shirley) of Oromocto, Bernard Murray (Aurena) of Fredericton, and Marlyne Murray of Rusagonis.
Marie loved her garden, and in marrying Patrick, she saw her lifelong dream of becoming a “farmer’s wife” fulfilled. She spent many hours in getting “that” particular arrangement of flowers and watching Paddy’s vegetables and potato patch grow, as well as, spending Sunday mornings with her adopted Murray family. After Paddy’s death, Marie moved to the J.J Farraline Independent Living Home in Fredericton, where, at the age of 90, and until her death, walked from winter to summer, one hour a day through the streets and walking trails of Fredericton, greeting and befriending the homeless on the streets and becoming a familiar face to many during her tours of the city.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, who cared for her so well, and especially the staff and residents of Farraline Home, and its director Judy O’Donnell, who so lovingly saw her as a member of their family.
Visitation will be held in the Oromocto Funeral Home, 108 Winnebago St., Oromocto, NB, on Tuesday, June 28th, 2016, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with Fr. Antonio Reyes as celebrant, on Wednesday, June 29th, 2016, at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully requests a memorial donation to the J.J Farraline Independent Living Home in Fredericton. Personal condolences can be left at
