MUISE, Walter Joseph – age 75, Elm Street, Yarmouth, passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at home. Born March 18, 1941 in Quinan, he was a son of the late Theophile and Maggie (Frotten) Muise. In his younger years, Walter worked in Halifax, after which he moved to Toronto where he and his wife married. He worked with Spun Metal and then with Rothman’s, where he worked for the next 17 years. They then moved back to Yarmouth, where he worked for Eel Brook Construction and then as a painter with Earl Horton. In his younger years, Walter enjoyed playing baseball. Other interests included raising cattle with his uncle, hunting, fishing, gardening, rabbit snaring and spending time at his cottage in Quinan, most of which he did until the time of his death. Walter also loved playing guitar and singing and was a huge Hank Snow fan. Surviving is his wife, Jean (Saulnier) Muise, as well as his children, Stephen (Amber) Muise, Yarmouth and Dianna (Clifton) Doucette, Bell Neck; grandchildren, Kelsey, Lauren, Jasmine and Jamie; step-grandchildren, Brittany and Lacey; step-great-grandchildren, Sierra, Dakota and Kaliegh. Also surviving are sisters, Marjorie (Fred) Muise, Yarmouth; Irene Surette, Ste-Anne-du-Ruisseau; Joanne (Frank) Pretty, Newfoundland; Madeline Vacon, Yarmouth; brothers, Elmer (Bev) Muise, Sydney; George Muise, Quebec. Aside from his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Mabel Walsh and Florence Pothier, as well as by a brother, Stanley Muise. Visitation took place from 7-9 p.m., Sunday with prayers at 8 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 27, all at H.M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, Yarmouth, Father Albeni d’Entremont officiated. Interment followed in Saint Agnes Parish Cemetery, Quinan. Donations in memory of Walter may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation.
