We, the family of George Winston MacNeil, regret to announce his passing on Monday, June 27, 2016, at home, surrounded by his wife and family.
Born Oct. 22, 1937, in Reserve Mines, George was a son of the late George and Mabel (MacLeod) MacNeil. Until 1994, he lived in Glace Bay, before moving to Marion Bridge for the last 22 years.
Besides his parents, George was predeceased by his brothers, Connie and Sandy.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Annette ‘Nan’ (Murrant); sons, Tom (Donna) and Sandy (Margaret); brothers, Lawrence (Shirley) and Eric (Kay). Papa will be missed by his grandchildren, Mitch, Alexis, George and Mabel.
George was very involved in Gordon United Church, serving as Clerk of Session and an Elder. He worked as a truck driver, before getting a position with DEVCO, retiring in 1994. An avid boater and snowmobiler, George was the last surviving original member of the Eastern Trail Blazers Snowmobile Club, in which he had many happy days. After retirement, George and Nan enjoyed traveling, as well as visiting their grandchildren and friends.
There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at MacLeod Point Cemetery, Marion Bridge on Thursday 2 p.m., with Martha MacDonald officiating.
Memorials made to L'Arche Cape Breton, L'Arche Lane, RR # 1 Orangedale, NS, Canada, B0E 2K0 or charity of choice would be greatly appreciated.
