Robert MacDonald

MacDONALD, MCPL (RETD) ROBERT BRUCE
Chipman, NB - It is with broken hearts that we the family of Rob MacDonald announce his tragic passing as the result of a motorcycle accident on July 1, 2016. He was 53.

Son of the late Malcolm (Mackie) MacDonald and Norma (Sparling) MacDonald, he grew up in the community of Dutch Brook, Cape Breton. After graduating from Vocational School he worked for a few years and then enlisted with the Canadian Armed Forces. He did basic training in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia, graduating in 1984 and was posted to bases in Petawawa, Ontario, Lahr, Germany and Gagetown, New Brunswick. He served with the 8th Canadian Hussars (Princess Louise’s). He retired from the Armoured School in Gagetown.

From his early childhood, Rob loved the outdoors. He would go into the woods behind the family home and snare rabbits which he sold to folks at the neighbourhood service station in Dutch Brook. He loved hunting and fishing, driving an ATV or motorcycle, boating, camping and he simply loved campfires. He will be fondly remembered by his many cousins for the great fireworks displays at the annual cousin’s party in PEI.

Wherever he lived and wherever he worked, Rob made friends easily and could strike up a conversation with anyone. His broad smile, wonderful sense of humour and quick wit will be missed by all who knew him. He pulled the best pranks, some of which are legend.

Predeceased by his father, Mackie, Rob is survived by his mother, Norma MacDonald of Dutch Brook, NS; He is also survived by his loving partner, June Smith, and her daughter Katelyn; his daughter, Amanda (Nathan Stewart) and his son Brad, both of Fredericton, NB; sisters, Gayle MacDonald of Halifax, NS, Laurie MacCuish (Rick) of Dutch Brook, NS; brother, Kevin of Dartmouth, NS; nieces, Ainsley MacCuish and Breagh MacDonald Rahn, and nephew, Eris MacDonald Rahn; his aunt, Kathy MacDonald of Dutch Brook; many cousins and many, many friends.
