Carol Joyce (Roberts) Powers, of Barrington, passed away on July 1 at Bayside Home. Carol was born on March 29, 1942, at Yarmouth, NS, the daughter of Marjorie and Melford Roberts, and grew up in Pubnico and Barrington. Carol was predeceased by her husband Charles in 2015, and leaves behind their son Brian (Deborah) of Campbell River, BC, and grandchildren Peter, Amanda, and Lance Powers, her sister Ellen (Francis) Perry and brother Adelbert (Adele) Roberts of Barrington, nephews Francis Jr and Wesley (Janet) Perry, niece Carrie-Dawn (Dana) Weeks, and grandniece Ember Weeks. After high school, Carol worked for many years as a switchboard operator at Maritime Tel & Tel. She met Charles Frederick Powers, they were married in 1962 and set up their home in Barrington. When Charles worked in heating and later refrigeration, Carol acted as his office manager. Carol and Charlie were long-term members of Temple Baptist Church, Barrington Passage, where she taught Sunday School, organized and led children’s choirs, later directed Majesty Choir, and helped organize and run monthly seniors’ dinners. Carol’s home was a gathering place for family and friends, where she enjoyed all aspects of being a homemaker and a hostess. She was a wonderful cook and baker, and her knitting skills were exceptional. The family wishes to thank Dr. Kenny Yee, and the staff of Bayside Home for their exceptional care over the past three years, and Pastor Cindy Dunnett for her pastoral care over the recent years for both Carol and her husband Charlie. There was a memorial service on Wednesday, July 6, at Huskilson’s Funeral Home Chapel, Barrington, Pastor Cindy Dunnett officiating. Internment was in River Dale Cemetery.
